N'Golo Kante forced out of pre-season training with injury concerns
Chelsea have confirmed that N'Golo Kante has left the preseason training camp in Japan, and will head back to the UK to continue with rehabilitation ahead of the new season.
The Frenchman joined the camp as the team headed to Japan, but did not feature in Chelsea's 1-0 loss to Kawasaki Frontale on Saturday in Japan.
The 28-year-old suffered the knee injury towards the end of last season, and even though he recovered to play in the Europa League finals, he seems to be struggling with the knock.
"N’Golo Kante has traveled back to the UK to continue his rehabilitation for an injury connected to the knee problem he sustained at the end of last season," read a statement on the club's website.
Coach Frank Lampard recently highlighted the mercurial midfielder's struggles but is hopeful he will be ready for the start of the season.
"[He's] still feeling the effects of his injury from the end of last season, which we know with the Europa League final,"
"It's not a problem, we know he's a fit boy, we know he's got a great attitude,"
Kante will miss Chelsea's match against Barcelona on Tuesday as a result of the treatment but is expected to be fit for the English Premier League opener match against Manchester United next month.
