Confident Chelsea down Barcelona in Japan

Chelsea registered a 2-1 win over Barcelona in a friendly match played on Tuesday 23rd at Saitama Stadium, Japan.

Goals from Tammy Abraham and Ross Barkley were enough for the Blues to pick a win against a major club with Ivan Rakitic scoring a late consolation goal. Chelsea were coming from a 1-0 defeat in the hands of Kawasaki Frontale but this was Barcelona's first pre-season match.

Early chances

Barcelona started knocking early in the game with Alba delivering a cross inside the box which was turned behind for a first corner of the game. It was a big let-off for Chelsea as the outswinging corner was flicked on at the near post to Oriol Busquests at the back stick. Mount breathed a sigh of relief after letting him go when he saw the young Barcelona midfielder head over unmarked from eight yards.

Chelsea started settling into the game and took the lead in the 34th minute through Tammy Abraham. The forward was given a sitter when Jorginho caught Busquets in the possession and played him through. He got a clean route to goal and sidestepped Ter Stegen wonderfully before slotting in.

Barkley goal

Despite Barcelona seeing much of the possession, they found themselves trailing by two goals with nine minutes remaining to full time. Bakayoko spread the ball left to Alonso, who was forward from the back again, and he played in Barkley who made no mistake with an excellent finish past Neto from outside the ball, bending the ball past Todibo and inside his near post.

Rakitic goal

Rakitic pulled one goal for the Catalans in the stoppage time and it was a beauty. The Barcelona midfielder received the ball 20 yards out and fairly central and took a touch before firing into the top corner beyond a helpless Kepa.

The Blues will be up against Reading on 28th while Barcelona will take on Vissel Kobe on 27th in their second pre-season match before entertaining Arsenal eight days later.
