With Manchester United yet to name their next captain following the departure of Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic has revealed that he will lead the team to the best of his abilities whether he is made captain or not.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a number of players to choose from for the captaincy role from Ashley Young who wore the armband in Valencia's absence last season to David De Gea, who played the most number of games last season, Paul Pogba, who Solskjaer has admitted may be given the armband and the experienced Juan Mata are all viable options.
Matic who has been in fine form during pre-season has been endorsed by former United captain Bryan Robson, with the Serb impressed by the compliments, "It’s always great to hear when someone like Mr. Robson says good things. It means something to me.
"Of course I am one of the most experienced players in the team and I will try to lead them the best way I can. As for the future, maybe, who knows? The manager has to make the decision about the captain. Whatever he decides, we’ll be happy, of course.
"The captaincy is important but, if we play good football and fight for each other, that is the most important."
