Premier League returnees Aston Villa have reportedly missed out on the opportunity to sign Brentford striker Neal Maupay but rumour has it that there is a 13th summer signing on the way according to Daily Express reports.
Maupay is said to be in the process of undergoing a medical at Brighton & Hove Albion with the move set to be in the region of £20million.
Daily Express reports have speculated that Said Benrahma will be Villa's 13th signing in the ongoing summer transfer window as they close in on the midfielder.
Dean Smith has spent approximately £130million of his transfer budget to assemble a squad that will be able to cement their position as they prefer for life back in the Premier League.
Smith told BBC in an interview that it was inevitable for the club to bring players in - and the right ones for that matter.
"The season finished and after the euphoria then comes the tough part of the job. We had to rebuild," he told.
"Fortunately we're rebuilding in the Premier League and we've got fantastic owners who are very supportive.
"I wanted to retain the spine of the team and add some quality to that. Three of the players we've signed were with us last season and two others I've worked with at Brentford.
"Even Trez [Egypt international Trezeguet] is great friends with [Villa defender Ahmed] Elmohamady. Wesley has struck up a great friendship with Jota.
"My ambition is to win every game we play. We want to compete in the Premier League."
Villa who have been instrumental in the summer transfer window are now rumoured to be interested in the services of Galatasaray defender Christian Luyindama - as Smith believes he could be vital in defence and help the side maintain survival in topflight.
Aston Villa will travel to Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, August 10 for their first match back in the Premier League.
