Cape Town City boss John Comitis has blasted the City of Cape Town for failing to prepare the Cape Town Stadium for Saturday.
The club has therefore been forced to move the game to Athlone Stadium, causing Comitis to seethe with anger.
“It is with great anger and frustration that the much-anticipated first Western Cape derby between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC has been moved out of the Cape Town Stadium,” Comitis wrote in a club statement.
“This follows confirmation by the Cape Town Stadium yesterday [Monday], four days before the major event, that the field has in fact not been prepared for the start of the season and is unplayable for football.”
Meanwhile, City's next home game after Stellensboch will be against the mighty Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday 27 August.
“This is yet another negligent and careless undermining of football in Cape Town by the Cape Town Stadium management,” concluded the former Ajax Cape Town CEO.
