It was a brilliant opening weekend for English strikers, while Manchester United's new record defensive signing got a clean sheet.
We've picked out five players that stood out.
Raheem Sterling 💫
It seems as though the Man City flyer has picked up where he left off last season. A hat-trick for England's Golden Boy against West Ham and it could have been four if VAR hadn't intervened. He'll have Tottenham in his sights next and an improvement on his haul of 22 goals and 11 assists in 2018/2019 already looks within reach.
Harry Kane 🥅
Speaking of Tottenham, the North London side eventually broke down a stubborn Aston Villa side, thanks to a screamer from the excellent Tanguy Ndombele and then a double from the ever-dependable Harry Kane. The goal-machine is up and running again and will want to make up for a poor (by his standards) and injury-ravaged 2018/2019 season.
Marcus Rashford 🔝
Perhaps the sale of Romelu Lukaku will be just the tonic that Rashford needs to recapture his goal-scoring form on a consistent basis. A double on an opening day will work wonders for the youngster who has just signed a new deal at Old Trafford and been handed the number 10 jersey.
Ashley Barnes 🤺
Although the Burnley man is flirting with the idea of representing Austria if the chance emerges, he's technically English and was born there. The aggressive centre forward bagged a brace against Southampton in Burnley's 3-0 win and Barnes was typically hard-working and physical all day long.
Harry Maguire 🔐
The 80m man was an assured presence at the back for United against Chelsea in their 4-0 win. Tougher tests will come, but this was a promising start for the ex-Leicester man, contributing to United's first Premier League clean sheet at Old Trafford since 24 February.
