Kenyan players abroad endure nightmare Wednesday

It was a disappointing outing for Kenyan players abroad as Ayub Timbe's Beijing Renhe, Handwalla Bwana's Seattle Sounders and Alwyn Tera's Saburtalo all ended on the losing end.

Harambee Stars winger Ayub Timbe clocked the full 90 minutes as Beijing Renhe lost out 2-1 to Hebei China Fortune in the Chinese Super League. Renhe went ahead through former Atletico Madrid midfielder Agusto Fernandez in the 27th minute but their lead was cut short five minutes later when Ezequiel Lavezzi restored parity for Hebei.

Dong Xuesheng ensured Hebei returned home with all three points courtesy of a 79th-minute strike. Timbe will hope for a better outing when they face Chongqing Dangdai Lifan on Sunday 15th August.

Handwalla Bwana came on a 76th-minute sub for Kelvin Leerdam as Seattle Sounders lost 3-0 to Real Salt Lake in the Major Soccer League. Sam Johnson, Albert Rusnák and Corey Baird were on the scoresheet for Real. Sounders still remain in playoffs slots but now only hold a two-point advantage.

Alwyn Tera and Saburtalo's dream of playing in the UEFA Europa League came crushing after a 2-0 home loss to Armenian side FC Ararat-Armenia. A win would have taken Saburtalo to the play-offs of the Europa League then a place in the Group Stages. Tera completed the full 90 minutes in an ill-tempered match that saw 11 yellow cards being dished out.
