Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe has officially revealed the reason why he sold Tyrone Mings to football and what it meant for Nathan Ake thereafter, Sky Sports understands.
Howe told that Mings and Ake are left-footed central defenders and that meant that they would be fighting for the same shirt and spot in the team - it became a dilemma for the Bournemouth boss.
However, it turns that it wasn't to be too much of a hassle anymore as Mings was to be sold to Aston Villa for £25million where he had previously spent his loan spell - and Ake was to resume his rightful position.
Due to lack of regular first-team football opportunities, Mings was shipped out on loan to Villa after he had only featured in 17 Premier League games respectively.
By joining the Villa Park outfit, the 26-year-old was to be a part of a team that achieved a great feat through winning promotion to the Premier League - he made 18 appearances in the English Championship.
Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is of the highest praise for Mings and believes that he will be called up to the England national team in due time - this came after his display in the side's 3-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.
"Tyrone Mings has got all the attributes (to play for England)," Howe said on Friday. "He's been unfortunate with injuries. He was never able to get that run in the team that he wanted.
"He was fighting with Nathan Ake for the same shirt. It's no surprise he's done so well at Aston Villa. He'll have that in his mind (England) as something he can achieve.
"My players know how good Tyrone Mings is, having trained with him over a long period of time. We know him well, he knows us well.
"There's no doubting his qualities as a player. Very good on the ball, very athletic, very strong and very good in the air.
"I think it will be a good match-up between our front players and him, it will be interesting to see how those duels come out in the match. But we wish him well for the future and it will be good to catch up with him."
