Harambee Starlets to work on defence ahead of Malawi test

Harambee Starlets head coach David Ouma has urged promised to work on the team’s defence ahead of their 2020 Olympic Qualifier against Malawi in the coming week.

Starlets emerged 3-2 winners over Ethiopia in a friendly staged at the Kenyatta Stadium-Machakos on Saturday and according to Ouma, it was disappointing to see her side concede two goals.

“In football, you have to keep your concentration high for the entire ninety minutes. It is disappointing that we kept conceding every time we scored but it is an area we will work on in training.

“We will keep working on our mental strength and I am confident that it will pay off against Malawi,” Ouma told the FKF official website.

In the game, visitors Ethiopia twice came from behind to equalize in the match, only for Gentrix Shikangwa to come with a winner in the dying minutes through a penalty.

The match saw three players, Lydia Akoth, Topista Situma, and Nelly Sawe make their senior international debuts.

The Harambee Starlets will face the Southeastern nation on August 28 before hosting them for the second leg on September 1.

The winner between Kenya and Malawi will face Gabon or Ghana in the third round of qualifiers.
