☠️⚫️⚪️ Rhulani Mokwena: I was born into Pirates, my blood is black & white

Orlando Pirates assistant coach Rhulani Mokwena has expressed his rather deep attachment to the club.

While Mokwena is yet to be announced as Pirates’ official new coach or interim to succeed Micho, the grandson of former club legend Eric 'Scara' Sono has reminded the public what the club truly means to him.

"I'm honoured and privileged to be given such a responsibility by probably one of the most humble, loyal, hard-working human beings, the chairman of Orlando Pirates, Dr Irvin Khoza,” Mokwena said via Kick Off after his second game in charge at AmaZulu on Tuesday.

"The last couple of days for me has been exciting, I'm just excited and enjoying the responsibility of leading a club that I sleep, eat, breathe, leading the club that I was born into," he added.

Mokwena added that leaving Mamelodi Sundowns three years ago to join Pirates was essentially to honour his family heritage.

"If you cut my blood at the moment you would see I bleed black and white. When I left Mamelodi Sundowns people said I made the wrong decision. Today I sit in a situation where I lead my grandfather's club, uncle's club, I lead my father's club,” Mokwena said.

Pirates’ next game will be at home to Zambia’s Green Eagles in a CAF Champions League preliminary qualifier and one in which Pirates trail by a goal after the first leg in Zambia.
