Frank Lampard had Tammy Abraham to thank for handing him his first win as Chelsea manager in their 3-2 victory over a stubborn Norwich City side.
Abraham silenced his critics with a goal in the third minute before Norwich pulled level three minutes later through Todd Cantwell but Mason Mount restored Chelsea's lead in the 17th minute before Teemu Pukki equalized for Norwich. Abraham scored the match-winner in the 68th minute to hand Lampard his first win.
Chelsea started like a house on fire and needed only three minutes to break the deadlock when Cesar Azpilicueta got to the byline, before whipping in a cross for the unmarked Abraham who kept his cool to volley the ball past Krul with a composed finish from inside the box.
The Blues lead whoever did not last long as three minutes later as Norwich pulled level through Cantwell who was strong in the box, before releasing Pukki down the inside left channel. And from the Finland striker's low cross, there was Cantwell to side-foot home from close range.
The frenetic start dimmed off but not for long as Chelsea retook the lead as Pulisic's clever pass released Mount in the box. And the young midfielder kept his cool to work some space with quick feet, before burying a shot past Krul for his first goal this season.
Norwich's never say die attitude was displayed again at the stroke of the half-hour mark when Buendia released Pukki with a gorgeous defense-splitting pass. And faced with the advancing Kepa, the Finn did brilliantly to beat the keeper with a low shot and take control of the top scorer's chart.
After a quiet start to the second half, Chelsea retook the lead for the third time in the game in the 68th minute after dominating possession when Abraham latched on to Kovacic's wonderful through ball and steadied himself, before firing a low shot past Krul from the edge of the box to become the first Englishman to score a brace for Chelsea since Frank Lampard in November 2012.
Chelsea next face Sheffield United on Saturday 31st August while Norwich travel to face Crawley Town in a League Cup clash.
