Having conceded just one goal so far this season, Victor Lindelof has revealed that extra competition for places in Manchester United's defense is the main reason behind their solid start.
Solskjaer beefed up his defense in the summer by adding Harry Maguire and Aaron Wan-Bissaka who have seamlessly fitted in the side. Their signings have meant the likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo have been omitted from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's matchday squads.
In an interview with MUTV, Lindelof revealed the reason for United's improved defense, "We have very good players in the squad and everyone wants to play. In the first two games, we’ve been playing that back five (David De Gea, Wan-Bissaka, Lindelof, Maguire and Luke Shaw) and have been performing well but it’s hard because you always have to perform well.
"It’s because there is always someone there who wants to play but that’s part of football. It’s very important for us and good for the team to have that. It’s very important for a team to have competition for places.
"If you don’t have that, then maybe you don’t push yourself to the next level. It’s what we’re doing every day right now and also what will take us to the next level, I think."
