Pirates suffer huge blow in Tyson Hlatshwayo chase

Orlando Pirates’ open pursuit of Thulani Hlatshwayo now seems completely shattered as the defender extends his Bidvest Wits contract.

Speculations of Hlatshwayo joining Pirates now look dead in the water after Bidvest Wits offered the 29-year-old defender a new three-year contract extension.

According to sources close to Soccer Laduma, Hlatshwayo has signed on until 2022, subject to the club’s official announcement.

“The Clever Boys stepped in to offer him [Hlatshwayo] an improved contract, which the skipper has now signed and will stay their player until June 2022 and make it near impossible for Pirates to capture his signature in the remaining few days of the transfer window,” Soccer Laduma wrote.

“It’s likely that the player’s salary bracket has jumped up as well and would give Pirates limited time to negotiate a fee for Wits to sell as well as personal terms with ‘Tyson’. As it stands, insiders have indicated the pursuit could very well be off,” added the publication.
