Mamelodi Sundowns’ win over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday meant Pitso Mosimane’s side and Kaizer Chiefs emerge as the best sides in the first month of the 2019/20 season.
In last night’s action-packed PSL, Sundowns had enough to defeat Celtic 2-1 away in Bloemfontein - with goals coming from Mosa Lebusa and Themba Zwane.
The likes of Stellenbosch FC, Chippa United and Maritzburg United again failed to earn any three points after dropping points against Bidvest Wits, Black Leopards and Polokwane City. It meant all three sides are yet to win any games in the 2019/20 season.
Orlando Pirates are troubled. Bucs' bright opening 3-1 win over Celtic, on the first day of the season, seems a distant memory. The win has been followed by an astonishing six games without a win rot (all competitions).
Full Wednesday results:
- Pirates 0-0 Golden Arrows
- Wits 2-1 Stellenbosch FC
- Maritzburg 0-1 Black Leopards
- Chippa 0-0 Polokwane
- Baroka 0-2 SuperSport
- Celtic 1-2 Sundowns.
Sundowns’ unbeaten run includes wins over SuperSport, draws with Chippa United and Cape Town City. As for Chiefs, who now sit pretty at the top of the league, have three wins and a draw in four games:
- Highlands Park 2-3 Chiefs
- Chiefs 1-0 Black Leopards
- Chiefs 1-1 SuperSport
- Cape Town City 1-2 Chiefs.
So can Amakhosi extend the run in their next game against Polokwane City on 14 September. Meanwhile, Sundowns will host Maritzburg United on the 21st.
