Barcelona defender Gerard Pique has revealed he told Neymar to focus on Paris Saint-Germain after the Brazilian’s return to the Catalans failed in the summer.
Neymar was keen to leave Ligue 1 giants and return to his former club Barcelona but the deal failed to materialize as the Catalans failed to meet PSG’s valuation. The Brazilian is expected to push for a move next year despite Barcelona president Josep Bartomeu making it clear that the Spanish giants have no plans of signing him in January. And Pique admits he is unsure if he will play alongside Neymar at Barcelona for a second time.
“I don’t have a crystal ball. I don’t know when or if he will come back. All I know he’s a great player, I have a great relationship with him,” said Pique when asked if Neymar will be returning to Barcelona.
“I told him: ‘Listen, you need to have a great year with Paris this year.”
“At the end it [Neymar’s return] didn’t happen but you never know in the future. He had a great time at Barcelona, we won everything in 2015 and it was a great time having him on the team, so you never know.”
