Manchester United were heavily linked with Douglas Costa this summer but failed to land the Juventus winger.
And now the Brazilian’s agent has revealed that Maurizio Sarri blocked the Costa’s move to the Premier League. Last season, Costa managed to start only seven matches after he was rocked with injuries and United was keen to sign him. And after Sarri took over from Massimiliano Allegri in mid-June, the new boss viewed Costa as a key part of his Juve projected and stood firm while the 28-year-old’s future was in serious doubt.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, agent Giovanni Branchini said, “ I sincerely say that Allegri and Sarri have never thought of letting him go.”
“The interest of Manchester United was strong, a club that has always been interested in the Brazilian. It was not the only club but in England, it was certainly the most active team on the trail of Douglas Costa.”
The 28-year-old has featured in the Juve’s two opening matches of the season and has provided two assists against Parma and Napoli.
