Ulinzi Stars will miss the services of defender Omar Mbongi and Brian Birgen when they take on Sofapaka in week Two of the Kenyan Premier League action.
Both players missed the club’s opening day win over newbies Kisumu All-Stars but according to the club doctor John Imboywa, Mbongi has suffered a bout of malaria despite being fit with Birgen still not ready to feature after getting off the EAC Military Games with an injury.
“The two are still out but Brian (Birgen) will be under observation for longer. He is set to see a physio for further assessment but he may need a month or so to recover fully.
Comes too Soon
“As for Mbongi, the weekend match comes too soon; he could start training on Thursday and will definitely not be ready for this game,” Imboywa is quoted by the club’s portal.
The club will, however, welcome back Kenya U23 midfielder Ibrahim Shambi who also missed the opening day win on compassionate leave.
This will be a fixture that many will be casting an eye for as the two teams are considered the close challengers of Gor Mahia and it promises to be another cracker with the corresponding fixture ending in a 2-2 draw.
