Kaizer Chiefs footballer Lebogang Manyama has revealed that he played as a number 10 before Ernst Middendorp’s arrival at Naturena.
While Manyama is yet to be the player we knew from Cape Town City FC in 2017 where he was the league’s Footballer of the Season, the Alexandra-born player is slowly becoming that top player at Chiefs.
With two goals and an assist in four games, Manyama owes the output to a connected mentality and atitude with his German coach.
“It’s all through the work that I put in. I think he knows the kind of attitude I have – I want to win all the time, even though it won’t be the case all the time,” said Manyama to Kick Off.
“But I think we’ve got that understanding because he knows I have the right attitude each and every day, and ever since he’s been here, I’ve learned a lot from him.”
The 28-year-old man went on to disclose that Middendorp has upped the capacity of his football, including the changed role from being a second striker.
“He’s improved my game tremendously, in many aspects. For example, when I got here, I was playing as a 10, which is way up the field, but now I can also play a bit deeper.”
The former Bafana Bafana international added that the success is much of a give & take between him and the coach.
“It’s all about listening to what he wants from me, and obviously then showing it on the field. Some of the things I do, he’s probably – hopefully – also learning from me.”
“So, it’s about working hand-in-hand with each other, but it’s a matter of listening to and learning from each other,” added Manyama.
Chiefs next take on Polokwane City at the FNB Stadium this Saturday.
