πŸ‡ΏπŸ‡¦πŸ† MTN 8 final: Key battles to watch at Orlando Stadium

We’re in for some cup final football as the Absa Premiership football takes a back seat for the 2019 MTN 8 final!

We look at key battles that will determine who comes out on top this Saturday in Soweto between Highlands Park vs SuperSport United.

Quick facts:

  • Highlands Park have never played a cup final.
  • SuperSport United play their third consecutive MTN8 final.
  • Park’s Reneilwe Letshlonyane could make his debut against his former side.
  • The last meeting resulted in a 2-0 win for Park.

Key battles to watch

  • Tendai Ndoro vs Clayton Daniels

This is a special match-up of two highly experienced heads. Ndoro’s 34 with 136 games - Daniels with 318 matches. The Zimbabwean international has become Park’s first-choice striker after an injury to Rodney Ramagelela - Ndoro therefore knows that what he has a golden chance to clinch a gold medal. But United have only conceded one goal in three games and Daniels has been a key instrument in that.

  • Bradley Grobler vs Limbikani Mzava

This is the league’s second-highest goalscorer against one of the most physical central defenders in the land. Grobler loves a header and that often involves physical energy. But that is what Mzava is largely about.

  • Dean Furman vs Mothobi Mvala

There’s nothing like a central midfield battle in a big game. Both sides know that the difference between a gold or silver medal will lie on two men: Furman for SuperSport and Mvala for Park. Furman will be crucial in getting SuperSport to play & defend and Mvala will carry the same roles.

  • Peter Shalulile vs Ronwen Williams

Ask anyone to mention Park and SuperSport’s most influential key players and they’ll most likely give you the names of Shalulile and Williams. So why? Shalulile gets the ball in the net (currently six in seven and the PSL’s top scorer). Williams is a proven top goalkeeper and Bafana Bafana’s number one.

So with the battle lines drawn and the Orlando Stadium grass ready to action, will those in red or blue lift the MTN8 trophy high into the Soweto sky?

Wel shall find out around 20:00 on Saturday.
