CECAFA U20: An own goal costs Kenya the title against Tanzania

Johnathan Onyango's own goal was all that Tanzania needed to seal the CECAFA Under 20 title at the expense of Kenya in a hotly contested final.

Kenya came into the match seeking to end their 20-year drought for the title with their last crown coming back in 1999 while Tanzania halted their 48-year thirst for the junior showpiece. The match was evenly balanced in the opening stages as both teams applied caution.

The game sprung to life in the first added minute of the opening half when a free-kick was floated into the box by from just in front of the center circle but a miscommunication by Brain Bwire and Johnathan Onyango lead to the Kakamega Homeboyz defender scoring a fortuitous own goal to hand Tanzania the lead.

Kenya chased the game in the second half but their efforts bore no fruits as Tanzania held on for the win. The two sides had earlier met in the group stages in a clash that ended in a 2-2 draw.
