Of Mathare United draws, a walkover and Gor Mahia dominance

Each week of the Kenyan Premier League action leaves us with a lot to ponder. A lot on the state on the league. A lot on its standard. And a lot on where we are as a footballing nation.

Week Five served us with a series of drama; from Sony Sugar failing to honour a home game to Gor Mahia once again proving that it will take a lot from teams to knock them from their perch.

The drama began on Saturday on Saturday 5 October when Mathare United drew their fourth game of the season (the most thus far this season). They are yet to lose a game but the draw once again showed that they’ll need just more than goals to win games.

It was another game that gave, those who are still in doubt about Wazito’s abilities, that they are in for a long ride. Wins won’t come easily and they’ll need a lot of time to find the perfect blend if they are to win games week in week out.

No Show for Sony

The same day saw Sony Sugar fail to honour a home game against AFC Leopards and then preventing their opponents from accessing their Awendo backyard with a decision about the clash expected to be given by KPL before the weekends.

The financial bit bite Chemelil Sugar FC as their winless run continued after going down 0-2 down to Kariobangi Sharks at their own backyard. The team currently occupying the last position on the league is the only team yet to register any point and things may not in their favour anytime soon should the management fail to address their plight.

On Sunday, Tusker FC resurgence continued with a 3-1 win over Homeboyz at the Bukhungu grounds. It was a good return for striker David Majak who scored against his former employers with the player having unceremoniously left the team last season.

Gor Mahia once again reminded everyone in the top flight that they are still the team to beat. Despite not having the best of games and being pushed by Zoo to the limit, they were still able to grind the result with Boniface Omondi’s strike nine minutes from time maintaining their perfect start to the season.
