Themba Zwane and Dean Furman scored in Bafana Bafana’s 2-1 win over Mali in Port Elizabeth today.

Debutant South Africa coach Molefi Ntseki started his tenure with a win as Bafana won the 25th annual Nelson Mandela Challenge.

The returning Keagan Dolly was back in the fold in place for the injured Percy Tau. But Dolly suffered heartbreak on 40 minutes. The French-based forward took a heavy knock on his left foot and was taken off for Themba Zwane.

Bafana broke the deadlock on 24 minutes. Thulani Serero did well to smartly draw and win a penalty inside the Eagles’ box. Dean Furman stepped up to stick the spot-kick into the net.

Substitute Zwane quickly made it 2-0 on the stroke of 45. The Mamelodi Sundowns forward after picking up a smart through-ball from Thembinkosi Lorch.

Mali’s consolation came in the 76th minute. RB Salzburg forward Sekou Koita drove in a perfect low shot passed Darren Keet for 2-1.

Bafana will be next in action next month. Ntseki’s men take on the Black Stars of Ghana in a 2021 AFCON qualifier on 11 November.
