Zambia U-17 national team moved a step closer to booking a place in the semifinals of the ongoing COSAFA U-17 Championships following a 7-0 humiliation of South Africa's Amjimbo's in a second group A match played at the Mpira Stadium this morning.
The young Copper Bullets took the lead 10 minutes into the match after Miguel Chaiwa rose highest to meet a Joseph Banda well curled a corner to put Zambia in the lead. Ten minutes later Joseph Banda turned finisher as he chipped the South African goalkeeper Werner Oosthuizen after receiving a beautiful ball from Rickson Ng'ambi.
Seven minutes to half time Ng'ambi increased the lead, Heading home a Peter Chikola corner. In the second half Zambia continued where they left off, First Ng’ambi provided his second assist of the match setting up Moses Mulenga to score Zambia's fourth in the 50th minute before netting an audacious 45-yard strike after spotting Oosthuizen off his line two minutes later.
Substitute Charles Mumba added a sixth goal before Peter Chikola grabbed the seventh with 18 minutes remaining on the clock to complete Zambia's biggest win over South Africa at this stage.
In the second match of the day Eswatini came from a goal down to shock hosts, Malawi 2-1. Colani Dvuba leveled matters after Noel Sakala had put the Junior Flames in the lead. Khayalethu Zitha put Eswatini in the lead and ensured they collected maximum points stunning Malawi in front of their home fans.
Zambia has six points at the top of Group A, while Eswatini and Malawi have three each and South Africa has zero. The young Copper Bullets will meet Malawi in the final group game on Wednesday while Malawi squares off with South Africa.
