Italy maintained their 100% record in UEFA European Championship qualifiers after whitewashing Liechtenstein 0-5 with Andrea Belotti and Stephan El Shaarawy bagging braces.
It did not take Italy long to exert their dominance in the game as Federico Bernardeschi opened the scoring after two minutes when an advantage was played after Belotti was fouled and Biraghi drove in a low cross into Bernardeschi, who swept it into the top-left corner from just inside the box as Italy went into the break leading 1-0.
Liechtenstein surprisingly managed to hold on Italy for long periods of the game with a lot of bodies behind the ball but their resistance crumbled in the 70th minute when Vincenzo Grifo's corner was headed in by Andrea Belotti despite Martin Buchel getting back to try and clear the ball but completely misjudged it.
El Shaarawy goal
Italy put the game to bed seven minutes later when El Shaarawy curled in an excellent ball onto the head of Romagnoli, who had stayed forward following a corner to head in the third goal of the game as Benjamin Buchel got a hand to it but could not keep it out.
El Shaarawy brace
El Shaarawy bagged a brace five minutes later when Cristante fizzed an excellent low ball to him as the Shanghai Shenhua midfielder simply flicked the ball past the goalkeeper.
Belotti also bagged a brace in the second minute of stoppage time when Di Lorenzo to beat his man and lined up a cross into Belotti, who dived in to head home from very close range.
Italy next face Bosnia-Herzegovina and Armenia in their next qualifiers in November while Liechtenstein face Finland and Bosnia-Herzegovina.
