Sofapaka FC President Elly Kalekwa is against the stoppage of the Kenyan Premier League as it won’t help the growth of football.
Speaking on a day Sofapaka renewed their sponsorship with Betika firm, Kalekwa said the stoppage of the league will only scare away potential sponsors who would like to help grow the game.
“I don’t think stopping the league will help us as a country. There are people who are willing to invest in the game and they have to see the product. There is no one who will sponsor what isn’t there. I know its tough on teams but I don’t think suspending the league will be a solution.
“We have struggled financially in recent past but we kept on pushing. All I can urge other teams is to not to lose hope in pushing until we find help,” Kalekwa said.
The Ksh 35M deal signed on Wednesday is the highest received by the club from their sponsors and they will hope they can show the value with a performance on the pitch starting with their next game against Nzoia Sugar FC.
