Why Manchester United failed to sign Joao Felix

Manchester United were linked with Joao Felix in the summer transfer window but opted not to sign him due to his lack of physicality.

Felix had an outstanding season with Benfica last season scoring 15 times and laying on nine assists for them before earning a move to Atletico Madrid. He costed a fortune, with the Spanish side forced to pay his £113m, making him the fifth most expensive transfer ever, and second most expensive teenager.

According to The Athletic, Felix’s transfer was discussed numerous times by United chiefs prior to his mega-money move to Atletico, but they had a few reservations about the 19-year-old. The primary concern was that Felix lacked the physicality required to cope with the pace and power of the Premier League.

There was also a feeling that he might not be able to sustain his electric Benfica form – he only has two goals and an assist in eight La Liga starts this season.
