Club of Francis Uzoho Omonia Nicosia has commenced a search for a replacement for injured Super Eagles goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
Uzoho will be out for at least six months after suffering a fractured anterior cruciate ligament in Nigeria's international friendly against Brazil on Sunday.
Things moved from bad to worse for Omonia Nicosia after second-choice goalkeeper Constantine Panayi also suffered an anterior cruciate ligament while playing for Cyprus in Euro 2020 qualifier against Russia on Sunday.
The club is now left with only third choice goalkeeper Charalambos Kyriakides for their league game against leaders Anorthosis on Sunday.
“The two goalkeepers of a team being injured in their national assignment, and even the same day, are something unprecedented," a statement on www.omonoianews.com says.
“It is not only that Uzoho and Panayi were injured, but also that they suffered the worst damage they could possibly suffer, and logically we will not see them again in the season. The team is running to replace them ahead of Sunday’s game,” the website said.
