Neville praises Ole Gunnar tactics in 1-1 draw against Liverpool

Former Manchester United defender Phil Neville has praised Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's tactics during the team's 1-1 draw against League leaders Liverpool.

Neville, who is the current England Women's national team manager, was impressed with how the Norwegian set up his side against a team with one of the most fearsome front three in Europe.

United limited Liverpool to few chances and generally disrupted their normal play, before taking the lead towards the end of the first half.

Daniel James sent in a perfectly-weighted pass, which was met by Marcus Rashford at the far post for the lead.

They couldn't hold for 90 minutes though, as Adam Lallan popped up to grab an equalizer deep into the second half to share the spoils and force Liverpool to drop their first points of the current campaign.

"Tactically, Ole got it really spot on," he told Optus Sport.

"Five at the back, they defended the middle of the pitch really well, the three center-backs, in particular, defended the goal really well, every cross that came in from wide areas they were set.

"Just that cross at the end when it gets fired across the box. Rojo just lost a little bit of concentration and it got punished.

"Liverpool did finish really strong and United will feel like that’s two points dropped."

The draw left United still rooted to the bottom half of the table in 13th place and on 10 points after nine matches.

They next travel to face Serbian side Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League, hoping to pick a win and maintain the momentum.
