South Africa still have to wait longer before breaking into that elusive FIFA top 50 World Rankings.
While Bafana Bafana shot up the list from the mid 70s into the top 70 after AFCON 2019 - including the famous win over Egypt in the last 16 - the last three months have seen an unwelcome decline.
Since last ranking update, August to October saw two friendly cancellations and a 2-1 win over Mali in Port Elizabeth in the Nelson Mandela Challenge friendly, and today’s update confirmed Bafana have dropped from 70 to 72 in the world. The nation's highest ever placing was back in August 1996 where SA was listed as 16th in the world.
Meanwhile, the CAF rating is not too shabby. South Africa remain knocking on the top 10 with a place in 14th place.
Molefi Ntseki’s side will next challenge the formidable Black Stars of Ghana. SA will meet the West African giants on 15 November in an AFCON 2021 qualifier.
