Carlos Vela has been named the most valuable player of Major League Soccer after his record regular-season tally of 34 goals for Los Angeles FC.
Vela received nearly 70% of the weighted vote to become the first Mexican to win the award in the history of the MLS.
LA Galaxy forward Zlatan Ibrahimovic came second after scoring 31 goals in his second MLS season. Atlanta United forward, Josef Martinez - who won the award last year - finished third.
🇲🇽 Vela's season highlights
As well as his impressive goal tally and scoring prowess, former Arsenal and Real Sociedad man Vela also notched 15 assists during an incredible season with the Black & Golds of LAFC.
LAFC's coach Bob Bradley was named as MLS coach of the year last month. Unfortunately, Vela's LAFC side fell to Seattle in the Western Conference final last week.
Seattle will play Toronto in the MLS Cup final on Sunday.
