UCL: Salzburg in make or break match against Napoli

Redbull Salzburg will this evening square off with Napoli in a UEFA Champions League matchday four clash at the Stadio San Paolo in what could be a make or break game for the Austrian side.

Salzburg currently sits third in Group E with only three points to their name after three matches and need to win away in Naples if they are to retain any realistic hopes of making it to the round of 16.

Coach Jesse Marsch is expected to name a strong starting line up with the view of causing an upset. Salzburg is no pushovers and despite their loss at home to Napoli, The Italian giants need to be careful and not underrate the young Salzburg squad.

GOOD START BUT NO CONSISTENCY

Salzburg started their maiden campaign in the UEFA Champions League group stage like a house on fire thrashing Belgian outfit KRC Genk 6-2 a match in which Norwegian teenage Sensation Erling Braut Haaland became only the third-youngest player to score a UCL hatrick.

After that fantastic start, Salzburg traveled to Anfield and as expected they suffered a defeat 4-3 although they put up an impressive fight and nearly caused a scare. On matchday three Napoli came calling and being at home it was expected that Salzburg would at least force a draw having never lost a competitive match in over two years prior to meeting Napoli.

Dries Mertens, however, led the Italian side to a historical 3-2 win over Salzburg scoring a brace to help Napoli end Salzburg's long unbeaten run.

DO OR DIE

Salzburg needs to win tonight if they want to keep their hopes of progressing to the group stage. Erling Braut Haaland will lead the attack alongside either Hee-Chan Hwang or Patson Daka in search of goals for the Austrian Bundesliga Champions.

They, however, need to be cautious at the back and avoid giving Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens space to work their magic as they can easily hurt Salzburg. Salzburg can draw some courage from the fact that Napoli has not won a game since the 3-2 win away in Salzburg.

Kick-off for the match is at 22:00hrs Central African time.
