Our favourite footballers, especially defensive ones, will at times score own goals and last night was Thomas Partey’s moment.
The Atletico Madrid midfielder delivered an assist in last night’s 2-1 loss to Bayer Leverkusen but went to bed feeling rather blue for putting one into his own net.
Partey’s own goal came just four minutes before the break, before Kevin Volland made it 2-0 for the Germans on 55 minutes.
The 26-year-old Ghanaian then made his assist for Spanish striker Alvaro Morata to score a consolation goal on 90+4 minutes.
The Krobo-Odumasi born player later took to social media to regret the result, while also committing to look ahead to better performances.
"Difficult game with personal mistakes but it is part of football. I will continue to work hard to help this team,” Partey posted on Twitter.
Partey’s next European night will be a huge one. Atletico will travel to Torino to face Christiano Ronaldo’s Juventus on 26 November.
