Ghanaian footballer Kingsley Sarfo is about to become a free man after serving more than a year in a Swedish jail.
Sarfo, a Malmo midfielder, was incarcerated in July last year for a rape charge that has now been found to be false. Ghanaian media have reported that the 24-year-old player will resume his football career in Scandinavia.
“According to reports in the Swedish media, the talented Malmo FF midfielder will be allowed to continue his football career in the Northern European nation and will not be deported upon his release from jail,” said the report via GhanaWeb.
“After serving more than a year in jail, the 24-year-old has been exonerated of any crime as investigations have proven that the rape allegations levelled against him were false.”
“The latest investigations has clearly established that the victim fabricated lies on the Ghanaian international,” added the publication.
It is not yet clear if Malmo will welcome Sarfo back to the club, though his contract was terminated after he was handed a two years, eight months sentence.
