Burkina Faso 0-0 Uganda: Cranes and Stallions play out to a goalless draw

The Ugandan Cranes and the Stallions of Burkina Faso played out to a goalless draw in their opening match of the 2021 AFCON qualifiers.

The match was coach Jonathan McKinstry's second competitive match since being named as Cranes boss. His first game was a slim 1-0 victory in the international friendly match over Ethiopia last month.

The Stallions dominated the early exchanges but the Cranes captain Dennis Onyango made sure the match remained level at 0-0. Joseph Ochaya had to clear a goal-bound ball in the opening stages to deny the hosts and making sure the first half ended 0-0.

The Cranes first real chance came minutes into the second half, Emmanuel Okwi met a Farouk Miya corner with a beautiful header which ricocheted off the crossbar.

In the end, neither side could find the back of the net and the match ended goalless to gift each side a point each.

Next on the cards for the Cranes is a clash against Malawi at the Mandela National Stadium in Kira while the Stallions travel to Khartoum to face South Sudan.

Starting XI

Denis Onyango (GK, Captain), Bevis Mugabi, Joseph Benson Ochaya, Timothy Denis Awany, Murushid Juuko, Khalid Aucho, Mike Azira, Faruku Miya, Emmanuel Arnold Okwi, Abdul Lumala, Henry Patrick Kaddu
