Cristiano Ronaldo will have a chance to hit a century of goals for Portugal when he leads his side in a Euro 2020 qualifier match against Luxembourg on Sunday night.
The attacker is on 98 goals following his hat-trick on Thursday night again Lithuania and will be aiming to go past the 100-goal mark.
The former Manchester United and Real Madrid man will become the second player in the history of the beautiful game to hit a century of goals, with only one man in the elite bracket; Iran's Ali Daei.
The striker's record stands at 109 goals from 149 matches, and with Ronaldo showing no signs of slowing, Daei's record is within reach for the 34-year-old.
Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport in October, the striker was full of praise for the Portuguese, naming him among the top three players of all-time.
He even waded into the never-ending debate of whom between Ronaldo and Messi is the best, picking the former for obvious reasons.
"I am very proud of this world record as long as it lasts, and I think it’s the same for all the Iranian people. They are happy with what I have achieved in my career. In fact, the record does not belong to me, but to all my people,"
"I won't be disappointed because records are meant to be broken. It will happen sooner or later: I am happy that such a great player will surpass me. I really like him and the way he moves in the field. Ronaldo is still in top form, I consider him in the top three ever. I can only wish him the best,” the ex-Iran forward added.
“Ronaldo has made a contribution to his country’s improvement in recent years while Lionel Messi failed to do that with Argentina. This is why I think that he will break my record.”
Ronaldo's hat-trick against Lithuania was his ninth in international career and his 55th across club and country action in all competitions.
