Johnny McKinstry began his home reign with a win after Uganda recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Malawi in a 2021 African Cup of Nations Qualifier hosted at the Namboole Stadium on Sunday 17 November.
Uganda was to take the lead in the 29th minute when Emmanuel Okwi calmly controlled a long ball from Joseph Ochaya, beating off a Malawi defender before putting the ball past the Malawi keeper; a goal that was the difference as both teams headed for the half time break.
Nine minutes after the resumption, the home side was forced to make a substitution as Marushid Juuko limped off to be replaced by Timothy Awany. Mckinstry was to hand KCCA FC youngster Allan Okelo his senior debut on the 65th minute as he came on for William Kizito.
Three minutes later after the Okelo sub, Uganda was to double their lead through Fahad Bayo. The striker who had won the ball from a Malawi defender curving his effort past the Malawi custodian.
The win sees Uganda go top of Group B with four points; a point above Burkina Faso who replicated the same scores in their game against South Sudan.
