With qualifications confirmed for France and Portugal, it was another time for other teams to try and make history with others fighting for individual honors.
Defending champions Portugal was the latest team to qualify for Euro 2020 after recording a 2-0 win over Luxembourg on Sunday.
Manchester United summer target Bruno Fernandes broke the deadlock in the 39th minute with Cristiano Ronaldo adding a second four minutes from time in what was his 99th international goal; the feat leaving him on the brink of becoming only the second player in history to score 100 goals for a national team, joining Ali Daei of Iran.
In another match, Barcelona FC forward Antoine Griezmann scored one and created another as France secured top spot in their qualifying group with a 2-0 win in Albania.
Griezmann set up Corentin Tolisso eighth-minute opener and followed up with the second just after the half-hour in what was Didier Deschamps’ 100th match as manager of France.
