New Tottenham Hotspur manager Jose Mourinho is 'excited' at his new role, following his announcement on Wednesday morning.
The former Chelsea and Manchester United manager takes over from Mauricio Pochettino, who was sacked on Tuesday night following a series of poor results.
Mourinho, who has been out since leaving Manchester United in November 2018, will be tasked with reviving last season's Champions League finalists' season, and he says he is up to the task.
“I am excited to be joining a Club with such a great heritage and such passionate supporters. The quality in both the squad and the academy excites me. Working with these players is what has attracted me,"
Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy said they trust the choice they made, with the Portugues one of the most successful managers in recent times.
“In Jose we have one of the most successful managers in football. He has a wealth of experience, can inspire teams and is a great tactician. He has won honours at every club he has coached. We believe he will bring energy and belief to the dressing room.”
Spurs become Mourinho's third club in England, following stints at London rivals Chelsea (twice) and the most recent one at Man United.
'The Special One's' first assignment at Spurs will be a London derby against West Ham on Saturday afternoon.
