Kenneth Omeruo and his teammates at Leganes suffered a 2-1 defeat to Barcelona in the La Liga on Saturday.
Arturo Vidal's late minute strike helped Barcelona return from the international break with a victory.
Omeruo, who was benched in Nigeria's last two matches, was on the starting lineup for Leganes and played for 83 minutes before he was replaced with Rodrigo Tarin.
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde fielded an attacking line-up that included Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele in a 4-2-3-1 formation, but it did not look like paying off for large parts.
Leganes took a half-time lead after Youssef En-Nesyri had scored the opener in the 12th minute to the delight of home fans at the Estadio Municipal de Butarque.
Luis Suarez drew level for Barca eight minute after the break before Arturo Vidal sealed a 2-1 victory for the side, 11 minutes from time after a VAR check showed the midfielder was not offside due to the ball reaching him via a Leganes player.
Leganes' woes continued as they have won just once all season, while Barca move three points clear at the summit.
