Aston Villa 1-4 Leicester City: Vardy brace keeps the title race alive

Leicester City continued to pile pressure on Liverpool after grabbing a 4-1 win over hosts Aston Villa on Sunday 8 December at Villa Park.

Villa had started brightly and should have taken a 12th-minute lead if El Gahzi had not hit the bar. The forward, who was waiting at the edge of the six-yard box got to a cross from Targett but he could only direct the ball onto the bar with the goal gaping.

Leicester made them pay for the missed chances as Jamie Vardy put the visitors in front in the 21st minute. The England striker made a fine trough in between the two centre-backs, rounding the goalkeeper by before firing into an empty net.

They had to wait until the 41st minute to double their lead through Iheanacho. Maddison drilled in a cross from the left byline which Iheanacho volleys home after getting between two defenders.  The first half drama was not over yet as Villa went for the half time with some lifeline after Jack Grealish had reduced the arrears in additional minutes.

Leicester broke again nine minutes after the resumption when defender Johnny Evans headed in a floated corner by James Maddison. Vardy was to complete the goal-scoring proceedings fifteen minutes from time. Praet lifted the ball over the top for Vardy to chase, he controlled the pass before whacking it into the corner beyond Heaton.

The win put Leicester second on the league table with 38 points; eight points behind leaders Liverpool.
