RECAP: Harambee Stars players who are free agents

Year in year out players put in the needed shifts in their bid help improve at an individual level if club accolades can’t come their way.

Many angle at better deals at their clubs or with other clubs with these performances and the Kenyan players are no different. A chunk of Harambee Stars players has orchestrated moves in recent past and the next January window (for most European leagues) might see make a few moves.

But who are the players in the Harambee Stars team who are likely to move freely in the period?

Christopher Mbamba

Mbamba shocked many when he was named in the 30-man provisional African Cup of Nations squad that was to represent Kenya in the showpiece in Egypt. He was billed by many to make the final cut but an injury in the France camp meant he missed the chance to represent the Sebastien Migne side.

The midfielder has been without a club since July 2019 where he last featured for Swedish side Oddevold where he was loaned to from Oskarshamn.

Ismael Athuman Gonzalez

Just as Mbamba, Gonzalez has been clubless since July this year when he parted ways with Spanish third-tier side Las Palmas Atletico. He made the final cut to Egypt and made a late cameo role in Harambee Stars last group game against Algeria when he came on for Dennis Odhiambo in the 89th minute.

Abud Omar

Another player who has surprised many in the list is Aboud Omar considering his potential in the Harambee Stars group. His last involvement at club level, just as the other two, came in July with Romania top-flight side Sepsi OSK.

Josh Lelan

Having been handed a call up during Stanley Okumbi reign, Lelan has not been the same player since leaving Derby County development side. He has been without a club since July after last featuring for England fifth-tier side Aldershot Town.

Philemon Otieno

Injury sustained in the national team duty has seen the player miss the entire Kenyan Premier League season and was not registered by Gor Mahia for this season. His contract comes to an end in December and he should be free to negotiate a deal with any club at the end of the month should he be considered surplus to requirements.

Brian Mandela

Another player who can move as a freebie id fender Brian Onyango Mandela. The defender has been without a club since parting ways with South Africa Premier Soccer League side Maritzburg United in July and at one point said to be training with United's league rivals Mamelodi Sundowns though a deal didn't materialize. He had missed the 2019 AFCON due to an injury.
