Youngster Benson Omala grabbed a hattrick as Western Stima emerged 4-1 winners over visiting Zoo Kericho in a Kenyan Premier League match staged at Moi Stadium-Kisumu on Wednesday 11 December.
With Homeboyz and Ulinzi having won their games earlier, it was the turn of Stima to keep pace with the rest of the leading pack lest they are left behind in the race towards the top five.
Zoo was proving too hard to crack but the hosts were to find a way through Omala in the 24th minute before doubling his and Stima’s tally ten minutes later for a healthy 2-0 lead at the half time break.
Omala was not done yet with scoring and he was to grab his hat trick three minutes after the resumption. The young striker has been a breath of fresh air for the Kisumu based side after blowing hot and cold at the start of the season.
Secondary School Ball Games
Omala, still in school, was part of the Kisumu Day team that was eliminated in the group stage in the 2019 Kenya Secondary School Ball Games that was hosted in Kisumu in July this year.
Zoo resilience was to pay in the 74th minute when they were to pull a goal back through Dennis Ongeri but Salim Hamisi ensured that the goal was not going to spoil Omala's glorious day by banging the fourth deep in stoppage time to maintain their three-goal cushion.
This isn't the first goal Omala has scored this season as he came off the bench to notch the winner for Stima in their last month's 1-0 win over KCB FC; the win propelling Stima to third on the league log.
