OFFICIAL: Van Bommel sacked by PSV

Dutch legend Mark van Bommel has been sacked as the manager of Eredisive side PSV Eindhoven following a string of bad results.

In a statement, PSV noted: “The PSV management team ended the collaboration with head coach Mark van Bommel this morning. The continuous series of negative results form the basis for that decision.”

On his part, the club’s general manager Toon Gerbrands said: "The decline is too large and unworthy of PSV. The competitions are the measuring moments, but the process around them is also decisive. We monitor this intensively.

“PSV is a club where we try to help and support each other. That has also been the case in recent months. The club interest has always been paramount. The evaluation ultimately resulted in this painful decision. We have all done everything to turn the tide. Unfortunately, we did not succeed.”

Interim Manager

The club said that they will be appointing an interim manager before the day ends after thanking Bommel for his services.

Last season, the Dutch giants were on course to land the title in Van Bommel's first season in charge, having led the table for most of the way. However, they missed out on the last day of the campaign, following a late resurgence from Ajax.

It has been poor season for PSV this season with the team being eliminated from the Champions League at the play-off round before failing to qualify from their Europa League group.
