Joey Antipas dramatically resigned as Zimbabwe interim coach in November - but that has not stopped him from applying for the vacant post again.
News out of Zimbabwe says that Antipas’ close circle of family & friends have persuaded their associate to apply for the prestigious job of coaching his nation. Antipas, who doubles up a Chicken Inn FC coach, did a fine job as caretaker coach between August and November.
Zimbabwe’s AFCON 2021 Qualifiers saw an earning of four points from a possible six - thanks to Antipas. “A lot of people have encouraged me to apply for the job and, so, I have applied,” Antipas told The Herald.
Antipas also confirmed that his Chicken Inn duties will be sorted out by the club and the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) hierarchy.
“Should l get the job, ZIFA will have to talk to my employers. We are sorting out a new deal. But, first things first, we will see what goes on.”
Other applicants for the post include Dutchman Erol Akbay, Germany’s Michael Weiss, the Spaniard Manuel Marquez and Milutin Sredojevic from Serbia. ZIFA are expected to name the new coach early in the new year.
