United bossed the rest of the contest but there was to be no more scoring as the game finished 2-0 in favour of the richly deserving hosts.
Rivers United now occupies the third spot on the NPFL standings with 21 points from 12 games.
They will face Nasarawa United in their next league game on Wednesday, January 8 at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Port Harcourt by 4 pm.
