Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has revealed why he picked jersey number 7 when he joined Lille last summer.
Osimhen, 21, joined the French club for €15m from Sporting Charleroi in August.
Before Osimhen, jersey number 7 was last used by Rafael Leao who now plays for AC Milan.
“When they (Lille) first presented the numbers that they had, I went for the No. 7, because the player who wore the jersey before (Rafael Leao) was a very good one, and he had a lot of luck and he has a lot of talent also," Osimhen said in an interview on the Super Eagles YouTube page.
“They asked me why I chose the number, and I told them I wanted it and that was what my mind chose. When I picked the number, I also presented it to God and of course, you can see that everything is going on well.
“After my debut, Rafael Leao messaged me on Instagram and we had a little chat about everything and we both wished ourselves well,” he added.
The number 9 jersey is Osimhen's favourite. He has worn the shirt number for the Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles, Olympic Eagles and recently the Super Eagles following the retirement of Odion Ighalo.
