Mikel Arteta responds to making Granit Xhaka Arsenal captain

Despite Granit Xhaka's future at Arsenal being in doubt, Mikel Arteta has refused to rule out a leadership position for the Swiss midfielder at the club.

Xhaka had a burst up with Arsenal fans after the 2-2 draw against Crystal Palace which led to him being stripped off his captaincy.

The former Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder was linked with a return to Bundesliga as Hertha Berlin were reportedly interested in his services.

In an interview with football.london, Arteta was asked whether he could envisage Xhaka captaining Arsenal again, "I don't know, time will tell that. Now he's happy to stay here, he's completely committed and that's a big plus today."

Arteta has handed Xhaka a clean slate at Arsenal as he has only missed the defeat to Chelsea due to an illness and impressed in the 2-0 win over Manchester United.

Xhaka was dropped by Emery and Ljungberg after he refused to apologize to the fans after shouting "f*** off" following his substitution against Palace.
