Didier Deschamps urges Giroud to leave Chelsea

France head coach Didier Deschamps wants Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud to leave the club in search of regular playing time.

The Frenchman has been frustrated by the lack of opportunities at the club since his arrival from Arsenal, and it has become worse this season under Frank Lampard

The Englishman has preferred using Tammy Abraham as the lone striker, with Mitchy Batshuayi deputizing him.

According to Deschamps, a move will not only benefit the national team but will be great for the 33-year-old whom he says has a lot to offer.

“It would be good for the national team if Giroud left Chelsea, but it benefits him as well,” Didier Deschamps told TF1.

“He’s not happy about the amount of game time he’s had [this season].

“He knows his situation needs to improve and he can’t settle for playing this little.

“It’s up to him to decide what the best destination would be. He knows what’s best for him.”

Despite his lack of regular playing time at the club, Giroud is France's first-choice striker, and will most likely lead the lines when they play in the EURO 2020 tournament.

Giroud might be starting at the exit door at the London club, and Lampard confirmed there was a possibility of leaving in the current transfer window.

Newcastle United are interested in taking Giroud on loan, while there is strong interest from Antonio Conte's Inter Milan, who are keen on a permanent deal.
