Following Tottenham Hotspur's 1-1 draw against Middlesbrough in the FA Cup, Jose Mourinho has criticized the match ball although he insisted it was not the reason for their stalemate.
The FA Cup uses a £115 Mitre ball which is different from the Premier League ball and Spurs struggle to adapt to the change as they found it hard to maintain possession and assert any dominance over their opponents.
In an interview with BT Sport after the draw against Middlesbrough, Mourinho lamented about the FA Cup ball, "I think this ball is [a] beach ball. It's too light. I don't think it helps the players. But that's not an excuse."
The Portuguese manager was also unhappy about the unavailability of VAR which would have ruled out Fletcher's goal, "Yeah because the Middlesbrough goal is offside. VAR would give [the offside decision].
"The referee was not some guy in an office 200 miles away [today]."
