Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given an early team news ahead of the Manchester Derby in the Carabao Cup semifinal clash against neighbours City.
United injury woes were compounded in their weekend FA Cup draw against Wolves with defender Harry Maguire and Tahith Chong picking up knocks but Solskjaer is not ruling out the England defender in the derby.
“It is a bit early yet (with Maguire). We are going to give him as much time as possible. He was hobbling about yesterday but there are still 36 hours to go, so we will just wait with all of them.
” It is not a time to go out on the pitch and do lots of work anyway. We are going to do meetings and recovery work, “Solskjaer said in his Monday press briefing.
Lingard and Martial
Forward Jesse Lingard and Anthony Martial sat out the Molineux clash due to illness, while Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay remain unavailable due to injury.
When asked specifically about Lingard and Martial, he replied: “We hope that everyone is going to be available but we don't know, because some recover quicker from illnesses than others. So it is the same answer. We have just got to give them as much time as possible and make a decision on the team in the morning.”
United will hope they can replicate the performances they had when they last met City at the Etihad stadium where they emerged 2-1 winners.
